trovaire - the stonefruit sessions
Trovaire is your soundtrack for sunset sessions with friends, or a night with your tribe at the best kept little secret downtown. Drop into a gorgeous blend of contradictions where upbeat meets downtempo, samplers pillage funk, jazz and French pop classics, and Solinas and Moogs blend with guitars and vivid beats in the trip-hop tradition.
Influenced by the Bristol scene and with a European feel, Trovaire hails from a rural 500 acre farm at the top of Australia’s Great Dividing Range. Comprising multi-instrumentalists Dennis Gascoigne and David Ryan, this modern take on the sampling tradition reveals a delight in repurposing found sounds and reimagining how retro vibes fit into contemporary culture.
While the manic live performances in big festival boiler rooms and feel good radio hits from previous outfits Statler & Waldorf and Superfluid are from a decade gone, the ghosts of artists past linger in Trovaire’s connection to their audience. There’s the upbeat toe-tappers like “To Leave the Sea” with its French pop hook, the lazy Sunday afternoon “Paris” or the warm downtempo groove of “Oh How Lovely”. It’s music for good times with good people.
Incorporating finishing touches from Tony Espie (The Avalanches), Trovaire’s LP The Stonefruit Sessions is a tribute to the bonds of friendship and a shared passion for great music. A nod to morning coffees with Tourist and Moon Safari, old school electro afternoons sliding into moody trip-hop soirees, and messy jungle jazz evenings. From old jazz, drum 'n bass on its second time around, ambient and Balearic chill-out, to everything around and in-between, the album is a testament to a community of shared aesthetics and love of art in places you don't expect it.
