AT RADIO NOW
Melbourne trio The Grogans return with 'Reasons', a full-throttle blast of rock 'n' roll that kicks the door open on the band's next era. Arriving Thursday 20 August, out via Community Music, it is the first taste of new music from The Grogans for 2026, and the first time the band has stepped into the studio with an outside producer.
From its opening moments, 'Reasons' barrels forward with relentless intent; it's The Grogans in their purest form: raw, energetic and unapologetic. Built around a start-to-finish wall of sound that never tips into excess, the track marks another sonic step forward for the band. Spacious, room-filling drums collide with gritty guitars, while dynamic call-and-response vocals amplify the emotional push and pull at the heart of the song.
Lyrically, 'Reasons' confronts the frustration of being repeatedly overlooked by someone who always has another excuse, choosing you last, time and time again. Rather than dwell on disappointment, the song transforms that tension into forward motion, building towards a defiant refusal to settle for second place.
"This is Grogans rock 'n' roll in every sense. We wanted a start-to-finish wall of energy without it feeling over the top. 'Reasons' is yet another step up sonically. From the room in the drum sound and grit in the guitars to the call-and-response vocals, which tackle the frustration with another person who is making excuses and choosing you last once again. We wanted it to drive forward unapologetically; we wanted it to have energy. 'Reasons' does just that." The Grogans
A defiant anthem about refusing to settle for less, 'Reasons' channels frustration into momentum, pairing relentless energy with the band's most dynamic and confident sound to date, with the single marking a major milestone for the band. After five acclaimed studio albums built on instinct, chemistry and a fiercely independent spirit, The Grogans enlisted a producer for the first time, teaming up with acclaimed producer and mixer Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, Crowded House, TISM, Mildlife), with mastering by Joseph Carra. 'Reasons' captures a band hitting its stride and continuing to evolve, without sacrificing the raw urgency and grit that have always been at the heart of their sound.
Since forming in Melbourne in 2016, Quin Grunden, Angus Vasic and Jordan Lewis have quietly become one of Australia's most prolific and hard-working guitar bands. Across five studio albums, countless EPs and relentless international touring, they've built a reputation on authenticity rather than trends, fusing surf rock, garage, blues and indie into a sound that's unmistakably their own.
Their 2025 album Stagger cracked the ARIA Top 10, while singles including the ARIA Gold-certified 'Money Will Chase You' and 'Lemon To My Lime' have become fan favourites. They've delivered a standout triple j Like A Version, earned a triple j Feature Album with Find Me A Cloud, sold out headline tours throughout Australia, North America, the UK, Europe and New Zealand. The Grogans have shared international stages with Ocean Alley and have performed at renowned festivals including Dauwpop Festival (Netherlands), London Calling (Netherlands), Bangkok Music City (Thailand), and Slackbarn Festival (New Zealand). In Australia, they have also appeared at Yours & Owls Festival, Wanderer Festival, St Kilda Festival, NYE on the Hill, and the triple j 50th Anniversary Celebration.
With 'Reasons', The Grogans aren't reinventing themselves; it's an uncompromising statement of intent and an exhilarating introduction to the next chapter of the trio, setting the tone for what promises to be their biggest and boldest body of work yet.
There's no easing into this one. The Grogans new sound has arrived!
