Sesame Girl will release their new EP Butterfly Wing in a Silver Locket on 7 August. The EP was produced by Simon Lam (Armlock, Kllo, Charli XCX). They release focus track ‘Prettiest Girl in the World’ and embark on a five date Australian headline tour to celebrate.

“I’ve always been really obsessed with butterflies ever since I was a little kid, and so the title ‘Butterfly Wing in a Silver Locket’ feels very sentimental. A locket to me is also the ultimate accessory of sentimentality, like wearing a photo of someone you love in a necklace? That’s so special,” said Heather Duncan.

“We made this record with our all time favourite producer Simon Lam. While we were recording we were really into the natural, organic texture of sounds like banjo and slide and acoustic guitar. We paired all those with some more gazey and crunchy guitar tones to create something that feels really unique and genuine to us.”

Sesame Girl will embark on a five date headline Australian tour from 14 August, playing in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, and their home town of Wollongong, ending the run at Bloomfield Music and Arts Festival in Buangla, NSW. They’ll be joined by friends Lover, Paint, Koady, Margaret, binsad, yearn, and in Sydney and Canberra, a special drag performance by Faye Fem.

“The inspiration for this song came from how I have to turn off all the lights before I can have sex with anyone. It’s really about those moments when your eyes are shut and you're not being perceived, or perceiving yourself and you can just exist, and for all you or anyone knows, you're the prettiest girl in the world,” said Heather on ‘Prettiest Girl in the World’.

“It is a sad song, but I think it's also kind of positive in a way, like I’m saying: whatever work-around it takes, ‘I can let you love me’ and maybe that can be enough for now.”

The EP has seen singles ‘Kick in the Teeth’, ‘Wings of a Butterfly’, and ‘Superstar’ playlisted in Spotify’s New Music Friday AUNZ, Coastal Drive, RADAR AUNZ, Indie Arrivals, Tapestry and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, Mellow Days (US), All Indie (FR), Indie + chill (UK + 43) + more. Sesame Girl have received glowing reviews from triple j, added to triple j Unearthed rotation, FBi Radio, SYN FM, 4ZZZ, Radio Monash, and the music video was rage’s Wild Card Feature Video of the Week.
