Oracle sisters - divinations - wizard artists
AT RADIO NOW
The Paris-based three-piece Oracle Sisters - Julia Johansen, Chris Willatt & Lewis Lazar - have today released their new album Divinations via Wizard Artists, the band’s own imprint. Darker and more introspective than their previous albums, Divinations’ 11 tracks channel mysticism and timeless storytelling as the Oracle Sisters draw on diverse influences, from the surrealist poetry of Baudelaire and Rimbaud to the introspective philosophies of Carl Jung. Echoes of Talking Heads, Air, and Leonard Cohen resonate throughout. The album was written in response to what the band saw and felt on their 2023 US tour and Lazar shares, “imbibed in Blakean visions, biblical lore, and stream of consciousness writing Divinations is an ode to the poetic world of visionaries and dreamers who reach for the landscape of the imagination and the unforeseen in times of uncertainty. Sonically the album is a marriage of western music, country, French touch, rock n roll, and the ethereal folk.”
Divinations’ singles - “Riverside,” “Alouette,” and “Blue Left Hand” - have drawn attention from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Paste, and Brooklyn Vegan among others. Today Oracle Sisters share the video for “Marseille” and they note, “‘Marseille’ was born in the city that gave it its name, written on a toy Casio keyboard by the shoreline. The song begins as a trance-like rhythm you can dance to, with lyrics balancing between sincere and desperate self-help affirmations—those we tell ourselves while searching for a bridge between our individual lives and a universal feeling.”
On March 3 Oracle Sisters will kick off their biggest UK & European tour to date, stopping by at London’s KOKO on April 2.
