improvement movement - your pefect real life - ato
AT RADIO NOW
This Friday Atlanta's Improvement Movement will release their new album, Your Perfect Real Life on August 21 via ATO. Across eleven wildly inventive songs, the band confronts a world that feels increasingly unstable and surreal - planes fall from the sky, cities burn, snowstorms hit the South, and advertisements seem pulled from science fiction. Yet rather than respond with cynicism, Improvement Movement finds an almost radical optimism in the chaos, embracing uncertainty as an essential part of being alive.
Today, the band share “In The Morning,” the final preview of the LP ahead of its release explaining, “the song is a small picture of a very big idea: mourning. The loss of something before it’s even gone, and the inevitable marching on of everything else around it.”
Improvement Movement have also found a fittingly unconventional way to bring Your Perfect Real Life to life visually. The band took the album to the streets of New York City, performing the eleven tracks in full from inside a glass box mounted on the back of a moving truck. Inspired by the block of ice on the album’s cover, the transparent enclosure put the city in constant motion around them, turning the streets, traffic, pedestrians and changing landscape into part of the performance itself.
Today they share the first glimpse into this novel visual project with “In The Morning” - watch here. And watch this space for new videos to follow in the coming weeks. Additionally, unedited 360 footage of each song will be added to the band’s YouTube here, allowing fans to explore the videos through phone movement on mobile and mouse movement on desktop.
Throughout the campaign, Improvement Movement have matched the Your Perfect Real Life’s musical left turns with a series of playful, wonderfully strange videos. In addition to today’s single they have shared videos for the LP’s “Common Place,” “Still Cold” and “I Do,” a sunny, soft-rock ballad which presents the record’s core circumstance - ”all we’ve got is a rock and a hill.”
The self-described "social betterment campaign/prog-rock quartet/non-denominational cult" are currently on the road for a mix of headline dates and festival appearances along the East Coast, Improvement Movement will continue touring this fall with dates that include Elsewhere Rooftop in Brooklyn on October 1, a hometown show in Atlanta on October 10 at Goat Farm, and the Lodge Room in Los Angeles on October 30. Tickets are on-sale here and all shows are listed below.
