hockey dad - rebuild repeat - farmer & the owl
AT RADIO NOW
Wollongong’s Hockey Dad are surf rockers with a taste for ‘80s Australian melodic punk and classic rock ambitions. From childhood friends jamming in their parents' garage under a name taken from a Simpsons joke to earning two top 10 albums on Australia's ARIA charts and a string of gold and platinum-selling singles, Hockey Dad are now in-demand festival headliners and go-to tourmates for Third Eye Blind, The Story So Far, Basement, Taking Back Sunday, and more. Rolling Stone, NPR Music, The Guardian, NME, and Bart Simpson himself agree: Hockey Dad rule.
Rebuild Repeat, LP number four, is Hockey Dad’s most cohesive album to date. Produced by Australian alt-rock icon Alex Burnett, Rebuild Repeat is led by the trio of singles "Base Camp," "Still Have Room," and "Safety Pin" that exemplify Hockey Dad’s knack for catchy melodies and infectious hooks, drawing listeners into their world of sun-soaked riffs and irresistible charm. Through a more introspective lens, after the duo took time to pause and reflect during the COVID-19 global pandemic, Rebuild Repeat explores themes of resilience, growth, and the everyday struggles of modern life.
From the breezy jam "Wreck and Ruin" to the tender piano ballad "Dancing On the Other Hand," this is a no-skips breakthrough LP that somehow invokes the muscle of Modest Mouse and DZ Deathrays with the wise-beyond-their-years touch of Los Campesinos! and Sparkadia. If Wilco’s spider-ish guitar freakouts wore flip-flops, that’s Rebuild Repeat.
The themes are weightier, yet Hockey Dad still deliver the fun, electrifying live shows that they’re known for. 2024 will be the year of Hockey Dad, not only with a new album but also with the duo embarking on their biggest headlining arena tour to date with openers The Belair Lip Bombs and Militarie Gun and will be returning to North America in late 2024.
