EMMA SWIFT - DOWN AND OUT IN PARTY CITY [EP] - TINY GHOST
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Emma Swift has announced the release of her eagerly awaited new EP, Down And Out In Party City.
Down And Out In Party City sees Swift continuing her ageless fusion of personal confession, philosophical musing, and elegiac storytelling with a quartet of new songs recorded in the aftermath of her first full-length collection of all original material, 2025’s The Resurrection Game. Where much of that project was built around baroque poetic contemplation and equally lush arrangements, the songs here are significantly more direct and straightforward. From the lover’s lament of “I Didn’t Mean To Get Weird On You, Baby” to the reformed party girl’s midlife crisis chronicled in the title track, the Sydney, Australia-born, Nashville-based artist reflects upon her own extraordinary experiences with an evocative breadth of emotion and eloquent imagination. Working once again with producer Jordan Lehning (Kacey Musgraves, Caitlin Rose), Swift looks back on the ending of a decades long friendship with “You Got Here First” and a past that’s impossible to return to on “The Other Side of the Afternoon,” imbuing all four songs with the resonant strength of both her intimate vocals and incisive lyrical pen.
“In a way, this short, sweet collection of songs are a kind of sequel to The Resurrection Game,” says Emma Swift, “but if I’m being honest, they’re more like an extension of the place I was at when I made that record. Because of this, I didn’t want to hold onto them too long. I felt they needed to come out within the same 12 month period. And so, here they are.
“Once again, I found myself working with producer Jordan Lehning in the studio. He’s a wonderful, soulful guy, with a great ear. We both love David Lynch movies and Burt Bacharach songs and dirty vodka martinis. To me, that’s as good a trio of reasons as any to continue a collaboration.
“I’m working on another full-length covers project at the moment, and with it scheduled for release in early 2027, I felt an extra sense of urgency to get these originals out into the world before too long. In the age of the 15-second algorithmic soundbite, I am nothing if not entirely, happily, willfully out of step with the zeitgeist. Enjoy!”
Swift will celebrate Down And Out In Party City with a wide-ranging live schedule that includes headline shows, full-band performances, and dates supporting Robyn Hitchcock in the US, the UK, and Europe through October.
