BUTCHIE - EVERPRESENCE - MOREMEN

BUTCHIE is the recording project of Matthew Waldman, a New York–born, Tokyo-based artist, poet, designer, and educator whose music joins husky, narrative vocals with synth-led electronic production rooted in dream pop, disco, and psychedelic textures. The project extends a broader creative practice shaped by queer identity, fluxus thinking, design culture, and years spent moving between New York and Tokyo. Waldman is also described in the source materials as founder of NOOKA and a professor at Keio University’s Graduate School of Media Design, bringing decades of writing, visual culture, and teaching into the music.

The name BUTCHIE comes from a childhood nickname used by Waldman’s mother, later reclaimed as an artistic identity after early experiences that necessitated the creation of alternate personas as a survival strategy.
