“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me,
an Invincible Summer.”
- Albert Camus
The Invincible Summer is a musical collective with its name inspired by the above words of French existentialist, Albert Camus. The Invincible Summer was recorded during an inspiring time in Sydney Australia – at its iconic Studios 301, in the warm weather.
The project is led by Matt James who was inspired by seeing the Camus quote written in chalk on a public hall in the inner-city suburb of Darlinghurst.
“The album is about life, really – the excitements, challenges, loves, loves lost, and there are so many adversities - but sometimes you can get this feeling that empowers you – that you can strive above it all – that is The Invincible Summer”.
The album features some of Sydney’s best musicians, also members of Carlos Santana’s band, and James himself – a songwriter on major label songwriting rosters who decided it better to focus on his own music.
The songs were written in Australia, Los Angeles and New York – with the sole cover, Teenage Dream, arranged at the iconic Gramercy Park Hotel on a rosewood Gibson purchased the same day from Rudy’s Music in SoHo.
“We would like to thank you for listening. This album is from the heart – it’s about hopes and dreams, it’s designed to uplift. Thank you again.”
