REVERSE YR CURSE - WHERE ARE WE GOING AND WHEN WILL WE GET THERE?
REVERSE YR CURSE is excited to release their debut album Where Are We Going and When Will We Get There? on September 19. The album was recorded with Alex De Jong at Spacebomb Studio in Richmond, Virginia and follows the band’s acclaimed singles “Shoes Today” and “Who Cares,” praised by Bandcamp, Magnet, Glide Magazine, and more.
Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, REVERSE YR CURSE crafts an artful, nuanced strain of indie rock drawn from decades of oversized record collections and equally oversized neuroses. Bandcamp calls the album “full of arty jangle and big hooks,” while Glide Magazine hears music that “exists on a plane where serendipity fits tightly with forced intention.” Mundane Magazine praises it as “distilling decades of listening, living, and longing into something both tender and unflinching.”
Their lyrics wrestle with struggle, personal and collective, while rooting for the downtrodden and longing for relief. The songs reckon with the past, seek peace in the present, and remain sharply aware of mortality. In this space, the band forges music that balances experimentation with classic songwriting, where openness and intention intertwine.
Where Are We Going and When Will We Get There? achieves a casual pop intimacy steeped in nostalgia, yet its freshness comes from a hard-earned maturity. Made slowly and lovingly by Matthew, Bret, and Bonnie, with expanded production compared to their 2024 self-titled EP, the album layers intricate structures beneath ethereal vocals and swirling harmonies, capturing a playful tension between dissonance and euphony. There’s an unguarded earnestness at the heart of these songs, free of pretense and cool-for-cool’s-sake. Whatever darkness rises within is ultimately disarmed by genuine love and hope.
