phantom wave - echoes unknown

Phantom Wave is a shoegaze band based out of Brooklyn, NY. Following their previous releases - “Wilds” and “Bonfire Secrets” - Phantom Wave's 3rd LP, "Echoes Unknown" is an upbeat addition to their current catalog, comfortably capturing the distorted dreamscape that is trademark to the band. The three piece, comprised of Ian Carpenter (guitar/vocals), Yanek Che (bass) and Rachel Fischer (drums), create a wild depth of sound inspired by shoegaze classics and nugaze influences, bending the genre’s conventions with dynamic energies and multilayered textures. “Echoes Unknown” will be released on October 17, 2025 by Shore Dive Records, Brighton, UK. 

Echoes Unknown was Recorded at The Building in Marlboro, NY with sound engineer Ryan Dieringer. It was mixed by Elliott Frazier (Ringo Deathstarr) and mastered by Adrian Morgan of Timeless Mastering. In production, “Echoes Unknown” found influence from a variety of our shoegaze and dream pop favorites such as MBV, Ride, Chapterhouse, Mazzy Star, Crystal Canyon, Beach House, Ringo Deathstarr, DIIV, Lush and Slowdive, as well as other alternative rock favorites such as Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Stereolab, Majesty Crush and Massive Attack. The songs on this album were textured by a variety of creative in studio effects, piano, synth, drum machine and other percussive elements. Elliot added his unique sounds and creativity in the mixing process as well (ie: for Wanton he said “I want it to sound like a creepy ice cream truck”), adding even more richness and depth through the process of working with the band. We hope that “Echoes Unknown” takes you on a journey through our hazy and ethereal collage of sounds. To the band, “Echoes Unknown” is a dreamy way station, a sonic meditative rest in the band's journey to other places as yet unknown, and projecting dreams into the near future.
