Night Cap formed in Austin in 2017 after Ryan King, Jake Bomgaars and Alex Alfonso met at UT Austin, and the band quickly gained attention with their breakout debut single Everest, which has since surpassed 3 million streams. Since then, they’ve built a loyal following through sold-out shows across Texas and appearances at ACL Music Festival, Luck Reunion and more. Night Cap has spent the last few years on the road, headlining and supporting several tours all over the country and growing a dedicated national fanbase,
‘Like That’ is an energetic indie dance track that captures the confusion and turmoil of loving someone that does not reciprocate your love with true care. It is the shattering of an illusion, a realization that the person you love is only using you when it is convenient for them - “forget me on the way, but you caught me on the way down”. Whether or not the antagonist of the story ever really loved the writer is uncertain, and sometimes it feels like a cruel game - “you’ve got me in your pocket, I’m gonna stay, you find it funny when I’m upside down. It balances a pulsating rhythm with lyrics that reflect the effort to keep steady amid emotional uncertainty.
‘It’s Happening’ blends Alabama Shakes inspired rock with a reflective, almost hypnotic mood that explores the complex relationship we have with our past. It speaks to the way memory can both comfort and deceive, romanticising moments that may never have been as perfect as we remember. The song captures the fragile balance between growth and nostalgia. Despite our best efforts to move forward, echoes of old feelings can suddenly pull us back, reminding us that healing is rarely linear.
