Nightmare Dreaming is fxrrvst's highly anticipated fourth single since 2021. A first for Holly and Matt, the song itself is fully self written and produced, illustrating the growth of the Duo as a whole.

This indie alt track follows fxrrvst's signature writing style of building their songs from a minimalist few instrument introduction, to a full amalgamation of chimey/flowery melodies, crisp instrumental textures and heart pounding percussion.

This dreamy tune's central theme however is that of contrast and juxtaposition. Holly's soft and inviting vocals create a calm and tranquil atmosphere for the listener when first hitting play. However, the lyrics make you feel a sense of struggle and isolation, leaving you feeling slightly uneasy. The high impact drums interrupt the flowing vocal and guitar melodies are interrupted by an ever growing high impact drum tone, disrupting the feeling of ease you original feel through the first verse.

These are just some examples, but this overall tone of uneasiness and anxiety is a perfect depiction of how one's consciousness can be seen as a safe space at times, but can also have a dark side making you question 'Can i get out of it alive?'
