“Citizen Kay: At the helm of Australia’s hip-hop revolution”
– Beat Magazine
Charismatic wordsmith CITIZEN KAY returns with an infectious jam ‘EGO’.
‘EGO' is every bit a vibe-starter with its funk-filled guitar and bassline, swirling keys and strings and maximum positivity in tow. Bursting with energetic attitude, CITIZEN KAY’s vocals ride smoothly over the fresh soulful song with its hooked up chorus.
CITIZEN KAY explains the motivation behind the song: “‘EGO’ might seem like a song about me chasing a long lost ove or something, but it's my lovehate relationship with money.”
Migrating to Australia from Ghana at the age of six, CITIZEN KAY made it his mission to make music blending traditional hip-hop with the sounds of soul, funk, jazz and rock. This ambition has propelled him to two ARIA nominations for the albums Demokracy (2014) and With The People (2015), and with his last album Belly Of The Beast (2017) three Top10 spots in the US College Hip-Hop Charts, and also along the way, an appearance on triple j’s prestigious Like A Version.
CITIZEN KAY feels well at home on stage too, spreading his word and uncontainable energy to audiences nationally. Extensive touring has seen the wordsmith take to the road with the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Run The Jewels, Wiz Khalifa, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, Illy, Seth Sentry and Tkay Maizda including appearances at Falls and Groovin the Moo Festivals.
Just try and keep your ‘EGO’ in check or better still just let it take hold - CITIZEN KAY is back at his best!
‘EGO’ is released April 12 through Asphalt Records/MGM.
